Installing Vista Business Edition

Put: 05.02.2007 | Rev 05.02.2007 | Contributed by Andrew Mallett

The following instructions will perform a Full Installation of Windows Vista Business Edition and will delete any previous data and partitions on the hard disk. A full (clean) installation is the best way of avoiding the potential problems encountered with upgrading a previous version of Microsoft Windows.

DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOU WISH TO PRESERVE ANY EXISTING DATA ON THE HARD DISK!

Time required: Approximately 1 hour

The Windows installer will now copy the Vista image to the new partition. On the Acer Veriton 5700GX workstation, this can take approx. 25 minutes including TWO automatic reboots, so this is a good time to check your notes, have a coffee, etc.

When the system auto-reboots, keep the DVD in the drive but do not press any keys until after Windows has loaded (i.e. do not try to boot to the DVD again or Windows will restart the installation from scratch)

Close the Welcome Centre Window and click on the X to close the popup warning about updates. Leave updates TURNED OFF for now.

Remove the installation DVD and place it in its case.

Congratulations, you have just installed Windows Vista (Business Edition).
